Staff Physician
Job Description:
The objective of the staff physician position is to establish a comprehensive, community-based, family-centered, primary care program. The overall program will be designed to:
- Improve access to a comprehensive range of high-quality primary care services
- Improve health outcomes through an integrated delivery model focusing on prevention and health maintenance, health education, and evidence-based chronic disease management
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop a plan of care for each patient, including complete medical history, physical examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and/or referral
- Stress the importance of preventative medicine and utilize all available resources, such as laboratory and radiologic testing
- Practice medicine by caring for patients without discrimination regarding age, race, color, national origin, ethnicity, sex, sexual preference, weight, handicap, or income
- Immunize and vaccinate patients against communicable diseases as recommended and required by the standard of care
- Confer with consulting physicians, nurses, patients, and patients' relatives concerning treatment and care, ensuring confidentiality
- Refer cases requiring specialist services while adhering to managed care contracts and guidelines
- Participate in practice development, quality assurance, peer review, and staff meetings/activities
- Collaborate with other medical providers and support staff to support effective communication and continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate documentation of all patient encounters as required by CHC and third-party payers
- Provide services to a full patient panel, with a minimum of 1,500 active patients per provider FTE
- Comply with Federal Standards regarding provider productivity/performance
- Provide coordinated and comprehensive patient care in all applicable care settings
- Perform other duties and services which may benefit patients and community members
- Adhere to the mission of the Corporation and established standards of care
Reporting Relationships:
- Directly supervised by the Director of Family Medicine
- CMO retains ultimate oversight of the performance of all medical providers
- While not directly supervising support staff, will direct day-to-day activities and provide input into evaluations
- May precept mid-level providers and students
Evaluation of Performance:
Feedback and formal reports on performance, including productivity, efficiency, medical knowledge, patient rapport, supervisory ability, record maintenance, and adherence to policies, will be provided by the Director of Family Medicine and CMO.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited Medical School
- Completion of a family medicine residency in an accredited program
- Active South Carolina medical license
- Board certified or Board eligible in Family Medicine
- Able to read, write, and communicate effectively
- Great interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proficient in computer use
- Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrated clinical skill and critical thinking abilities
Physical Abilities:
- Required to talk and hear
- Able to push, pull, reach, sit, stoop, and stretch
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch
- Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed for equipment operation
- Vision abilities required include close vision with moderate exposure to a computer screen
Work Environment:
- Moderate noise level
- Moderate to regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens
- Minimal requirement for out-of-town and/or overnight travel
