Job Description
- Provides therapeutic interventions in the rehabilitation of patients and other clients through the use of treatment procedures and modalities consistent with the education of this specialty.
- Accurately assess the needs of all individuals prescriptively referred for evaluation and/or treatment.
- Plan and carry out an individual progressive treatment program intended to maintain or improve each person's physical and/or psychosocial wellbeing or to prevent disability within the dictates of the prescription, therapy goals, and policies of the facility.
- Accurately and regularly record all pertinent information regarding the Speech Language Pathology program.
- Document the need for skilled service in each record entry.
- Regularly monitor the RUG minutes, adjust daily within the designated minutes or adjust with other disciplines to ensure the RUG is met.
- Consistently perform at the required productivity level.
- Provide consultation to nursing service in the area of swallowing, speech, and/or cognition for reinforcement and maintenance of skill.
- Provide in-service programs within professional discipline for the facility when reasonably requested.
- Attend and contribute to patient staffing and utilization reviews held in the facility to coordinate a total patient plan of care.
- Comply with all facility policies related to safety and infection control procedures including the proper use of mechanical lifts, gait belts, and personal protective equipment.
- Understand, comply with, and promote all rules and regulations regarding residents' rights; promote positive relationships with residents, visitors, and regulators, including presenting a professional appearance.
- Maintain established policies to ensure confidentiality of all resident information. Establish, disseminate, and adhere to HIPAA compliance policies and procedures.
- Exhibit expected ethical and legal compliance standards reinforced through example and where applicable, conduct training on the expectation that all employees conform to these ethical and legal standards, including matters related to resident-to-resident abuse or neglect.
- Report promptly problems observed or reported by other employees. Assist in planning, implementing, and monitoring corrective action when problems including ethics and compliance problems and resident abuse or neglect are identified.
- Maintain compliance in promoting patient privacy, HIPAA regulations, and confidentiality in the delivery of care. Safeguard patients' medical, financial, and personal information.
Requirements
- Must have a Master's of Science or Art degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university program and Certification of Clinical Competency, or in process of C.C.C. post-graduate requirement.
- Must hold and maintain a license to practice in the appropriate state.
- One year of experience in a skilled nursing facility is desired.
- Must have the ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish this job.
- Must meet all local health regulations and pass post-employment physical exam if required. This requirement also includes drug screening, criminal background investigation, and reference inquiry.
- Must have the ability to relate to and motivate patients for productivity.
- Must be able to cooperate with patients, families, peers, healthcare professionals, administrative personnel, and other staff.
- Must maintain regular attendance on the job.
- Must have knowledge of speech difficulties and remedial measures.
