Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate
Join our team at Chenega Professional Services, LLC, located at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. The Department of the Air Force Family Advocacy Program is dedicated to identifying, preventing, and providing treatment to families, couples, and intimate partners impacted by domestic abuse. Our Domestic Abuse Victim Advocates offer essential support to DAF personnel and their families, ensuring victims receive non-clinical emergent and urgent services in a private and confidential manner.
Job Description
- Provide 24-hour/7 days a week response to victims alleging domestic abuse by maintaining an emergency contact number via cell phone.
- Establish a victim's safety plan on a case-by-case basis.
- Partner with the Family Advocacy Treatment Manager and Family Advocacy Intervention Specialist or mental health on-call provider to establish safety plans.
- Review the safety plan during each victim contact.
- Develop safety plans based on initial and ongoing risk assessments, notifying appropriate authorities if imminent risk is established.
- Immediately report any changes in the victim's circumstances that impact the safety plan.
- Advise each victim at the initial contact about the voluntary nature of DAVA services and limited confidentiality in accordance with AF policy.
- Advise victims of military or civil actions available to promote safety.
- Offer victims information regarding their identified needs, including emergency shelter, housing, childcare, legal services, clinical resources, and medical services.
- Empower victims to advocate for their needs and support them in decision-making.
- Assist victims with prioritizing actions and establishing short/long-term goals.
- Provide information and referral on military and civilian resources.
- Advise victims of the impact of domestic violence on children and support efforts for assessment and treatment.
- Accompany victims to appointments or court proceedings when requested.
- Collaborate with the FAP treatment/case manager to support victims and promote safety for them and their children.
- Brief the treatment/case manager prior to Clinical Case Staffing to ensure current information is available.
- Establish a contact file for each victim served, maintaining minimal information about allegations or incidents.
- Maintain DAVA contact files under a double lock system and/or DAVA database.
- Submit Victim Impact Statements when requested by the victim.
- Develop processes to keep the FAO and designated POC informed of DAVA's location and timelines when providing services.
- Support the Family Advocacy Intervention Specialist in developing System Advocacy, Education, and Public Awareness initiatives.
- Collaborate with Security Forces Squadron and Office of Special Investigations on safety planning and training regarding the DAVA role.
- Establish liaisons with civilian domestic abuse resources.
- Participate in the installation Family Advocacy Committee and contribute to the development of installation policies and protocols.
- Actively participate in resiliency initiatives designed to prevent domestic abuse.
- Communicate promptly with treatment/case managers regarding any information impacting the victim's safety plan.
- Share victim information with the Family Advocacy Nurse monthly to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements
