Medical Laboratory Technician II
Location: San Marcos, Texas
Job Description:
- Performs complex clinical testing in sections such as general laboratory, Blood Bank, and Microbiology.
- Ensures accurate and timely results including quality control, performance improvement, proficiency testing, and preventative maintenance of equipment.
- Recognizes abnormal critical values and follows guidelines for notifying medical team members.
- Performs clerical, general, and phlebotomy duties related to daily operations in the laboratory.
- Provides and dispenses blood products as requested by medical staff.
Responsibilities:
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Collects, handles, and processes specimens including blood via venipuncture and/or fingerstick.
- Reports errors or improbable results and takes appropriate action; performs tests and reports critical values per Policy and Procedure.
- Performs, analyzes, and records QC according to Policy & Procedure; follows CLIA, CAP, AABB, and JCAHO guidelines.
- Assists in training new associates and students in Laboratory practices.
- Follows established protocols for safety, infection control, security, compliance, and hazardous materials.
- Utilizes LIS and HIS computer systems to perform, charge, and report laboratory results.
Requirements:
- Associate degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course or equivalent laboratory training and experience.
- Laboratory training including completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved by ABHES, NAACLS, or equivalent.
- No experience required for graduates of an accredited clinical laboratory training program.
- MLT certification from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS required.
