Job Description:
- Responsible for collecting and recording ocular and systemic patient histories, visual acuities, BP, IOP, Auto refractions, Manifest Refractions
- Perform external examinations, dry-eye testing, and disease-specific extra testing
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Collecting and recording patient medical history
- Instructing patients on post-operative care, medication use, contact lens care, and exam expectations
- Performing visual acuity testing, auto and Manifest Refractions (measurements for the glasses prescription), tonometry (measuring eye pressure) (Goldmann required)
- Measuring pupil size and reactivity using PERRLA
- Testing elements of movement (eye muscle function)
- Performing confrontational visual field testing, pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurement)
- Performing dry eye testing including Zone Quick and TBUT, Interferometry, brightness acuity testing
- Participating in light cleaning of the facility
- Maintaining a sanitized environment
- Performing corneal topography, retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, retinal thickness and topography, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography
- Assisting with contact lens fitting and instructing patients on insertion and removal of contacts
- Preparing for and assisting with in-office procedures including consenting patients
- Assisting with Lasers or minor procedures
Working Conditions and Environmental/Physical Demands:
- Standing/walking 95% of the day to perform essential job duties
- Full body rotation (i.e., bending, stooping, twisting, etc.)
- Ability to lift at least 20lbs
- Communicating with others to exchange information
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- No adverse environmental conditions expected
Qualifications:
- Required: Minimal of one year in Ophthalmology
- Preferred: Certification, Certification through JCAHPO, Associates Degree - preferred
Skills and Abilities:
- Superior interpersonal and communications skills
- Ability to perform manifest refraction is required
- Ability to perform Goldmann tonometry is required
- Ability to effectively multitask
- Attentive to detail and accuracy
