General Surgeon

Location: Petersburg, VA

Job Description:

• Position: Locum General Surgeon
• Specialty: Surgery - General
• Type: Locum Tenens
• Start: February 2025 (ongoing need)
• Shift: 5 shifts per month, 24-hour shifts

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide general surgical coverage in a hospital setting.
• Perform adult and trauma surgical cases based on emergency room admissions.
• Common procedures include:
  • General surgery (e.g., cholecystectomy, hernioplasty, Nissen fundoplication)
  • Trauma surgery (e.g., aneurysm repairs, chest tube insertion)
  • Laser certification required
  • Central line insertion, PA catheter placement, ventilation management, AV shunt placement
  • Upper/lower GI procedures (e.g., sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy)
  • Chest wall and pleural procedures
• Work in a hospital-based practice with 4 hours of clinical time per day.
• Trauma Level: III.
• Utilize EPIC EMR system for documentation.

Requirements:

• Board Certified in General Surgery (ABOS or AOBOS)
• Active Virginia State License
• BLS and ACLS Certifications
• COVID Vaccination Preferred
• Clean background and no history of malpractice Preferred.

• Number of Operating Rooms: 9
• Practice Setting: Hospital-based, 4 hours clinical time
• Patient Demographic: Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric
