Family Medicine Physician
The Northern Navajo Medical Center located in Shiprock, New Mexico (Northwest NM-Navajo Nation) has an opening for 1 Family Medicine Physician to start June 29, 2020. Shiprock is specifically located in Northwest, New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation. Services are to be performed under the Navajo Area Indian Health Service (NAIHS), Shiprock Service Unit - Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) within the State of New Mexico.
Job Description
- Provide outpatient and inpatient family practice services in the delivery of patient care to the Indian Health Service.
- Perform outpatient and inpatient family practice duties and manage patients' needs as described in the position description, identified by the Service Unit and as directed by Supervisor.
- Provide professional Family Practice Physician Services in the delivery of direct patient care to the Indian Health Service.
- Exercise and have knowledge of Family Practice Physician Services to outpatients and inpatient department at the Indian Health Service, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, New Mexico.
- Work with 1-4 physician(s) and/or physician assistants in the outpatient clinic team.
- Participate in same-day and continuity care clinics.
- Perform minor office surgery procedures as needed.
- Cover inpatient services including Medical Surgical Ward, Pediatric Ward, Intensive Care Unit, Labor & Delivery/Post-partum Ward.
- Take night and/or weekend call approximately 2 to 3 times per month, covering inpatient Family Medicine service, performing emergency Department consults, admitting new patients to the hospital, and covering Labor and Delivery.
- Round on inpatients as needed if caring for inpatient cases.
- Provide consultation with members of the Family Medicine staff on matters of patient care.
- Review clinical records and adhere to records documentation procedures to ensure that records are properly maintained.
- Adhere to the quality assurance plan of the Northern Navajo Medical Center.
Requirements
- Valid current full and unrestricted license in all State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree; must be either Board Eligible as per ABFM regulations or ABFM certified.
- Permanent, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
- Must have a full and unrestricted license in all states in which licenses are held.
- Must have never been the subject of adverse Medical Staff Action (censure, revocation of privileges).
- No criminal arrests or convictions.
- Must have never been censured by a medical board for opioid use or misuse or sexual misconduct.
- Must have never been terminated early from a Locums Assignment due to behavior or quality of care concerns.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- If scheduled to work weekends: Saturday shift would begin 7:30 a.m. to Sunday 10:00 a.m.; Sunday shift would begin 7:30 a.m. to Monday 10:00 a.m.; Holiday shift would begin 7:30 a.m. to the next day 10:00 a.m.
- Callbacks and/or carrying of beeper/pager: Monday through Friday callback begins 5:00 p.m. to the next day 10:00 a.m.; Saturday callback begins 7:30 a.m. to Sunday 10:00 a.m.; Sunday callback begins 7:30 a.m. to Monday 10:00 a.m.; Holiday callback begins 7:30 a.m. to the next day 10:00 a.m.
- Variable work assignments for a total of 40 to 50 hours per week, including clinic coverage, night call, and weekend coverage depending on training and preference.
- Staff the Outpatient Family Medicine clinic, seeing an average of 16-20 patients per day. Clinic hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (occasionally until 5:00 p.m.).
To be considered for these positions you must provide:
- A current CV without any gaps of 30 days or more from completion of Medical School until present; all facilities must list a city and State.
- One active, unrestricted State Medical License.
- Current DEA.
- Three current references that can attest to your clinical skills in the past 12 months (phone numbers and mailing addresses included).
- BLS and ACLS Certification by The American Heart Association.
- Willingness to commit to a minimum of a 90-day assignment.
