Job Description

• The Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direction of a qualified professional nurse, participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care within the objectives, standards, and policies of the department.
• Communicates and collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team, including medical staff, administration, clinicians, dietitians, and milieu personnel.
• Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the supervision of a registered professional nurse, ensuring patient safety and compliance with unit and hospital policies.
• Assists in relevant health and psychiatric teaching for patients and families, serving as a role model for patients and peers.
• Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans.
• Effectively communicates with medical staff, receives verbal/written orders, and minimizes errors in communication.
• Prepares, administers, controls, and accurately records medications in accordance with policy, documenting effects and any adverse reactions.
• Observes, documents, and communicates any clinical or personnel issues that could alter patient care to the R.N. in charge.
• Safely performs vital signs, electrocardiograms, phlebotomy/labs, and diabetic/glucose monitoring while interpreting results and taking appropriate nursing action.
• Provides coverage in emergency services as needed.

Requirements

• Graduation from an approved Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
• One or more years of nursing experience within the clinical area of service provided by the facility is preferred.
