    Emergency Room Physician

    The Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas (1 hour from Kansas City, MO) has an immediate opening for an Emergency Room physician to provide emergency and urgent care to veterans. Typically, trauma patients are not seen in the ER except for falls and fractures.

    Job Description

    • Provide emergency and urgent care to veterans
    • Perform routine procedures including intubation, vascular access (arterial line/central line), lumbar puncture, thoracentesis/paracentesis, chest tube placement, and splinting
    • Work hours include 8:00 am to 8:00 pm or 8:00 pm to 8:00 am on weekends/holidays, with some weekday shifts from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (ER physicians are scheduled for approximately 80 hours of work during each two-week period)
    • Manage an average in-patient census of 35-40 (8 ICU beds)
    • Participate in the Education Debt Reduction Program for student loan repayment, potentially offering up to $120,000 for qualifying education loans

    Requirements

    • Board eligibility/board certification in internal medicine, family medicine, or emergency medicine
    • Must hold a full and unrestricted license from any US state to work at this facility
