    Hematology/Oncology Physician

    The Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran's Hospital in Columbia, MO is actively recruiting for a BC/BE Hematology/Oncology physician. The duties include providing comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of general hematology/oncology. The selected candidate will have completed fellowship training in hematology and medical oncology from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and will be board certified or board eligible for hematology and medical oncology. The physician will provide primary, secondary, and tertiary care in both hospitalized and outpatient settings, identifying patients' health problems and designing diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet these needs. The physician will coordinate activities of other health service personnel, resolving problems affecting patient care and providing appropriate education for the patient and/or family members regarding the patient's illness and its management.

    In addition to direct patient care, we also provide opportunities for residency and fellowship education, research, and program development.

    Job Description

    • Provide comprehensive care for patients with illnesses within the scope of general hematology/oncology

    Requirements

    • Board certified or board eligible for hematology and medical oncology
    • 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State is permissible to work at this facility

    Benefits

    • Annual salary: $200K - $240K + annual performance bonus of up to an additional $15K + full benefits

    Federal Retirement Plan

    VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), which is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of:

    1. Social Security benefits
    2. FERS-FRAE basic benefits (pension)
    3. Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), a 401K-type plan

    VA employees hired after January 1, 2014 automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period, while the VA contributes 8.3% of the employee's salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 12.7% of the employee's salary.

    The TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to IRS requirements. For calendar year 2014, employees under age 50 may contribute up to $17,500, while those over age 50 can make catch-up contributions up to $23,000.

    The Federal Government provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of employee contribution.

    For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension. In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel. Employees are vested in a federal pension after only five years of service.
