    Position Summary:

    Education/Certification:

    • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut
    • Must have certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) upon hire

    Experience:

    • Previous surgical or labor and delivery experience, specifically assisting with C-sections, required

    Competencies:

    • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
    • Possess basic computer skills

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Perform population-specific comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of the patient condition and care needs, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects
    • Collaborate with the surgical team to define, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care for each surgical patient
    • Follow the five medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors
    • Demonstrate knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition
    • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes
    • Document the nursing process and responses to care in a timely manner using appropriate tools
    • Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations
    • Utilize critical thinking skills and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation
    • Demonstrate autonomous practice consistent with evidence-based standards
    • Pursue personal and professional growth and development
    • Serve as a professional role model and mentor
    • Provide an accurate and pertinent report of the patient condition for safe transfer of care
    • Prepare room in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for each surgical procedure
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and assure maintenance of aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure
    • Communicate with the surgeon in accounting for all sponges, needles, and instruments; report discrepancies immediately to the surgeon and Team Leader
    • Appropriately document all counts, records, handle, label, and process specimens
    • Demonstrate ability to effectively function in the scrub role
