    Charge Capture Specialist

    Job Description

    • Perform daily audits of lab orders and manage frequent complex interactions with many internal and external contacts as required for compliance, audits, and accuracy.
    • Interact with Manager, Director of Revenue & Reimbursement, Manager Charge Master, internal audit representatives, client relations, nurse auditors, corporate compliance officer, HIMs and billing coders, physician group, nThrive representatives, and IT staff.
    • Under the direction of the OP Lab Manager, perform account reviews and investigations, manual charge entry, facility reconciliations, daily charge capture audit (CCA) exceptions, and meeting minutes.
    • Assist the Manager in updating information and education on an ongoing basis to lab staff and Charge Capture Coordinator staff.
    • Review and resolve exceptions and errors as they relate to lab charges and coding. Analyze charge review Work Queues (WQ) and make corrections to charges and coding as necessary.
    • Ensure charges are corrected timely so there are no adverse effects on Accounts Receivable. Work with providers to research charge and coding issues as needed.
    • Provide specialized technical knowledge of billing and required weekly attendance to the weekly Lab working sessions with consultant and Revenue integrity team.
    • Be accountable for the billing activities including oversight of daily operation of the Charge Capture coordinator and collaboratively work with the LIS analyst.
    • Identify and resolve issues. Ensure staff are working their WQ and billing daily.
    • Work with appropriate provider, management team, and staff when identifying errors or issues.
    • Provide formal education to the assigned area.
    • Use Department information system effectively and efficiently.
    • Assist in the implementation of new or upgraded billing software.
    • Follow internal/external regulatory and compliance guidelines.

    Requirements

    • High school diploma required; Bachelor or Associate degree preferred.
    • Minimum two (2) years' experience in a clinical setting or two years administrative support experience.
    • Advanced understanding of lab coding, Epic late charge entry, charge capture audit application, and CMS coding and billing regulations.
    • Minimum five (5) years of lab charge capture and billing experience required; EPIC Charge Capture experience preferred.
    • Understand charge capture processes and read and comprehend the patient chart.
    • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory compliance, HIMS, HIPAA, and coding rules, with an ability to maintain confidential and complex medical records.
    • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent communication and public relation skills; able to handle multiple tasks and interruptions.
    • Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
    • Experience using EPIC and SOFT (LAB LIS) software systems.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Works effectively as a team member under multiple demands and expectations.
    • Works with minimal supervision.

    License/Certification/Registration Requirements

    • Medical Billing and Coding Certificate required.

    Salary Range

    $34.08 - $51.12 USD Hourly
