Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
Location: Lake Placid, New York
Job Description:
- Assist with ensuring the health and well-being of residents by providing occupational therapy treatments developed and recommended by a registered Occupational Therapist.
- Plan, develop, and carry out treatment programs and procedures for residents.
- Create group therapy programs that are mentally and physically stimulating for residents.
- Prepare and present individual and group projects appropriate for residents with various needs.
- Document observations of resident behavior and progress in Progress Notes.
- Maintain attendance records and other departmental reports, and enter treatment records in Medical Record Chart.
- Assist in the training and supervision of Occupational Therapy Aides and students.
- Attend Resident Care Planning and Family/Resident Care Plan review meetings.
- Assist with departmental in-service programs upon request.
- Complete MDS+ assessment form as required.
- Inventory supplies; assist with maintaining order and sanitation of equipment.
- Attend in-service training programs and departmental meetings as required.
- Generate and develop ideas to improve the quality of care for residents or increase job productivity and satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Occupational Therapy.
- Adhere to safety rules and practices required for the job position.
- Perform assigned duties according to service excellence standards and goals.
Requirements:
- New York State Department of Education Certification and license to practice as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in New York State.
- Ability to relate well to residents and enjoy working with elderly people.
- Tact, diplomacy, and ability to develop good relationships with residents, staff, and students.
- Ability to inspire and motivate others and create a warm and accepting climate for residents.
- Maturity, diplomacy, and ability to work well with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to supervise departmental staff effectively and ensure high standards of care.
- Demonstrated willingness to uphold the vision and mission of the company by following the core values of Integrity, Teamwork, Passion for Excellence, and Reverence for the Individual.
