    Job Description

    • Oversee the overall function of the nursing shift ensuring a quality, respectful environment for the residents.
    • Organize, supervise, and evaluate resident care.
    • Review verbal information and written documentation from previous shifts.
    • Prioritize needs of residents.
    • Communicate with physicians and other departments in person, phone, or fax to update resident needs.
    • Coordinate admissions, transfers, deaths, and physician orders.
    • Address staffing issues as they occur.
    • Counsel and coach employees using policies including, but not limited to, P=S and No Excuse Policy.
    • Conduct performance evaluations on the respective shift for the nurse aides and participate in the nurse evaluations, as appropriate.
    • Maintain communication between staff and Director of Nursing and department heads by attending meetings, trainings, and maintaining shift log.
    • Assist with administration of Mantoux and Hepatitis B to staff.
    • Attend seminars to remain updated on issues pertinent to long-term care and government regulations.
    • Knowledgeable in Medicare and managed care.
    • Participate in wound assessment and care.

    This person may be occasionally exposed to loud and unpleasant noises due to unpredictable behaviors of residents; hostile and emotionally upset residents and families; and exposure to blood tissues and fluids with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and infectious materials. This person will be continuously exposed to chemicals such as disinfectants, cleansers, soap, etc., identified by the department's MSDS manual; and latex, plastic, and/or materials which are used for personal protective equipment.

    Must have the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds; stand, walk, bend, and stoop for long periods of time; good eye/hand coordination to set up and administer injections, prepare/administer medications and treatments, adjust flow rates, and use medical equipment; possess skills for continuous handling, feeling, and fingering required for palpation, operating and maintaining equipment, and providing medical treatments, i.e., wound care, resident care, and medication/treatment administration; push/pull medication/treatment carts weighing 300 pounds a distance of 600 feet; speak clearly at a volume adaptable to the hearing impaired; and in the event of an emergency must be able to physically assist in resident evacuation and life support procedures.
