    LPN - Med/Surg Float Pool Full Time

    Guthrie Corning Medical Center is hiring exceptional and motivated LPNs to work in our Float Team department. In this position, you will be assigned to one of our acute care nursing units to assist in the nursing coverage so that our patients continue to receive the optimal care our healthcare organization is known for.     Job Description

    • Assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice working within and to the maximum scope of license.
    • Direct patients to exam rooms and prepare them for exams or treatments by identifying height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, additional testing, and recording the same on the chart.
    • Interview patients to obtain history, allergies, reconcile medication lists, and record on chart as requested.
    • Write or call prescriptions after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed.
    • Email, fax, or call in any insurance referrals and follow up with referral numbers to specialists if requested.
    • Assist in smooth departmental operation by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistants, and MOAs as requested.
    • Answer telephone and perform other clerical functions as necessary (screen calls according to urgency and need).
    • Train and maintain proficiency in the use of computer equipment and other computer program training as requested.
    • Attend to exam and procedure rooms, ensuring that proper supplies are on hand, maintaining order and cleanliness.
    • Order medications or clinical supplies for the department as requested.
    • Administer prescribed injections/medications and record them on the patient's chart.
    • Route patients after exams to proper areas for ancillary testing or follow-up appointments, i.e., blood work, x-rays, and enter lab testing as requested.
    • Maintain basic knowledge of medications (side effects/contraindications, etc.).
    • Be able to read and review pathology results with patients.
    • Set up and tear down sterile fields.
    • Maintain infection control measures including but not limited to proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of autoclave.
    • Knowledge and proficiency of dressing changes and suture removal.
    • Assess signs and symptoms of infection and report to surgeon and/or provider.

    Requirements

    • LPN license based on corresponding position location.
    • One year experience in healthcare field preferred but not required.
