Job Description
- Provides high-quality nursing care for assigned patients with a scientific and humanistic focus.
- Utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in various domains including physiological, psychological, social, cultural, developmental, and spiritual.
- Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age-specific, and directed toward optimal wellness.
- The NLRN is a nurse in their first year of nursing practice, transitioning to the role of Staff Registered Nurse after one year.
- NLRNs are not allowed to cover the unit for lunches or breaks or be a shift/charge nurse until they have completed the orientation period.
Requirements
- Must be a graduate of a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and have passed the state board examination before beginning employment.
- NLRNs from Diploma or Associate Degree programs must demonstrate enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire and earn a BSN within four years.
- Must successfully complete a medication and IV challenge examination during the orientation period and maintain CPR certification.
Essential Functions

Employs Nursing Professional Practice: Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates patients' care. Develops, updates, and coordinates the patients' plan of care to achieve patient goals and optimize outcomes.

Advocates: Effectively advocates for ethical and holistic care by partnering in care planning to promote the autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs of those served.

Facilitates Learning: Fosters a learning environment for patients/families and other members of the healthcare team.

Aligns Practice with Safety and Quality: Accountable for safety, identifies and corrects problems, and integrates evidence and best practice into nursing care.

Other Duties
- Proficiency in Information Technology, such as electronic health records and communication systems.
