    Job Description

    • Provides high-quality nursing care for assigned patients with a scientific and humanistic focus.
    • Utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in various domains.
    • Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age-specific, and directed toward optimal wellness.
    • The Newly Licensed Registered Nurse (NLRN) is in their first year of nursing practice, transitioning to the role of Staff Registered Nurse after one year.
    • NLRNs are not allowed to cover the unit for lunches or breaks or be a shift/charge nurse until they have completed the orientation period.

    Requirements

    • Must be a graduate of a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
    • Must have passed the state board examination by the State Board of Nursing in their state of practice before beginning employment.
    • NLRNs who are graduates of a Diploma or Associate Degree program or possess a non-Nursing Bachelor's Degree must demonstrate enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire and earn a BSN within four years from their date of hire.
    • Must successfully complete a medication and IV challenge examination during the orientation period and maintain CPR certification.

    Experience

    • The NLRN enters practice at a Guthrie Hospital through the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency Program.
    • Clinical specialty tracks may be offered at individual hospitals.
    • Registered nurses with less than one year's experience must be hired through this program and may not be hired directly into an open position on any specific unit.

    Essential Functions

    1. Employs Nursing Professional Practice: Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates patients' care. Develops, updates, and coordinates the patients' plan of care to achieve patient goals and optimize outcomes. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.

    2. Advocates: Effectively advocates for ethical and holistic care by partnering in care planning to promote the autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs of those we serve.

    3. Facilitates Learning: Fosters a learning environment for patients/families, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team, including students; facilitates formal and informal learning for patients/families, nursing, other members of the healthcare team, and community.

    4. Aligns Practice with Safety and Quality: Accountable for safety, identifies and corrects problems, and integrates evidence and best practice into nursing care; uses data and evidence to improve patient outcomes.

    5. Engages in Professional Development: Engages in ongoing professional development; practices at the top of license within the legal parameters of the Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and specialty standards.

    6. Leader in Practice Setting & Community: Demonstrates leadership as change agents using collaborative leadership skills. Appropriately delegates, coordinates care, and collaborates with others as equal members of the interprofessional care team.

    7. Participates in the planning and presentation of educational programs.

    Other Duties

    • Proficiency in Information Technology, such as electronic health records, communication systems, computers, and equipment necessary to perform essential functions of the position.
    • Skilled to work with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff.
    • Ability to use independent, critical judgment in all aspects of patient care delivery.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills that convey a positive and supportive attitude.
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities, urgent responses, and challenging situations.
