    Nurse Resident

    Location: Guthrie Cortland Medical Center

    Position Summary:

    Provides high-quality nursing care for assigned patients with a scientific and humanistic focus. The Newly Licensed Registered Nurse (NLRN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety across physiological, psychological, social, cultural, developmental, and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age-specific, and directed toward optimal wellness.

    The NLRN is a nurse in their first year of nursing practice. This role transitions to Staff Registered Nurse on the one-year anniversary of their hire date. NLRNs are not allowed to cover the unit for lunches or breaks or be a shift/charge nurse until they have completed the orientation period.

    Requirements:

    • Graduate of a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program
    • Passed the state board examination by the State Board of Nursing in the state of practice
    • Diploma or Associate Degree graduates must demonstrate enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire and earn a BSN within four years from their date of hire
    • Successfully complete a medication and IV challenge examination within the orientation period
    • Maintain CPR certification

    Experience:

    • Entry through the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency Program at Guthrie Hospital
    • Clinical specialty tracks may be offered at individual hospitals
    • Registered nurses with less than one year's experience must be hired through this program

    Essential Functions:

    • Employs Nursing Professional Practice to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patients' care
    • Advocates for ethical and holistic care, promoting autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs
    • Facilitates learning for patients/families, nursing, healthcare team, and community
    • Aligns practice with safety and quality, integrating evidence and best practice
    • Engages in ongoing professional development and promotes a culture of inquiry
    • Demonstrates leadership as change agents in practice settings and community

    Other Duties:

    • Proficiency in Information Technology and necessary equipment
    • Works with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team
    • Uses independent, critical judgment in patient care delivery
    • Demonstrates interpersonal skills that convey a positive, supportive attitude
    • Manages multiple responsibilities and challenging situations effectively
