In this role, you will exercise independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the nurse practitioner or physician assistant licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice/Protocol for APPs. Job Description

• Develop differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revise based on physiologic and psychosocial findings. Interpret and synthesize laboratory, imaging, and other pertinent data. Review patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team and with the patient and family.
• Evaluate and document patients' response to care, and assess the impact of illness on patients' health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships, and establish a health promotion strategy.
• Assume clinical management for the critically ill cardiovascular patient population in collaboration with physicians in practice.
• Assist in the development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrate evidence-based research findings into clinical practice.
• Participate in clinical research/data collection and assist in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialty.
• Provide formal/informal clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge.
• Work schedule: 3-4 shifts/week with an expectation of 3-4 nights per month and 1-2 weekends per month.

Requirements

• Certification: Basic Life Support prior to start; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon start.
• Licensure: Licensed Physician Assistant (or eligibility for) as a physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances).
• Experience: One year of experience highly preferred.
• Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Board Certified Physician Assistant. Maintains necessary CME requirements.
• Preferably at least 1 year of experience in cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, general surgery, cardiology, or critical care.
• ACLS Certification.
• Valid, or ability to obtain, DEA.
