    Job Description:

    • Responsible for the independent performance of moderate and highly complex testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
    • Demonstrate practical knowledge and theoretical understanding of procedures in the clinical areas and critical thinking skills.
    • Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles used in diagnostic testing to recognize deviations in expected results, analyze technical problems, and make necessary corrections to achieve quality results.
    • Operate and maintain a variety of complex scientific equipment.
    • Troubleshoot and repair selected instrumentation.
    • Recognize quality control deviations and communicate problems to management, pathologists, and other staff members; assist with problem resolutions.
    • May assume charge responsibilities including workflow monitoring and serving as the first line response for medical personnel regarding problem-solving and resolution.
    • Scope of care may involve direct patient contact procedures such as phlebotomy, pediatric sweat chloride testing, and/or assistance with bone marrow collections on child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
    • Support a self-directed laboratory team concept demonstrated by a positive attitude, willingness to give and accept constructive criticism, maintaining a high-quality work standard, and accepting other duties as assigned.
    • May provide didactic and clinical technique instructional training and competency assessments to new team members and students.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biology or biological science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or successful completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course.
    • Meet CLIA Standard; Testing personnel qualification 42CFR493.1423 for moderate complexity testing and 42CFR493.1489 for high complexity testing.
    • Technologists performing Clinical Trial testing must meet the State of New York Department of Health Part 58-1 of 10 NYCRR Clinical Laboratories Standards 58-1.5.
    • Certification by the ASCP, AMT, AABB, or other organization deemed comparable is not required but preferred.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
