    Histology Lead

    The Histologist, Lead position's primary responsibilities are receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist. This may include cutting, sample capture, sample return, mounting, and staining procedures. Responsibilities include all aspects of microtomy; ensuring compliance with state and national regulatory agencies; and interfacing with other departments including laboratory, Pre-Analytical, and the pathologist. Assist with administrative duties as assigned.

    Job Description

    • This shift will be Tuesday-Saturday from 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
    • $30 - $45+/hour (dependent on several factors).
    • Prepare microscopic slides on human tissue for research/diagnostic purposes, including embedding, microtomy, and mounting to include paraffin processed tissue.
    • Processing specimen accessioning to include all manual and computerized data entry.
    • Performing routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s) according to established SOPs.
    • Performing sample capture for submitting samples to Molecular.
    • Train new and existing employees on histology tasks.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree and Certification: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) required.
    • 6+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, preferably in molecular diagnostics.
    • Ability to rapidly cut and mount high-quality tissue sections from a variety of tissue types, including needle biopsies.
    • Maintains continuing education units required by California Department of Health Services.
    • Experience with all major brands of histology equipment.
