    Optometrist

The Uintah and Ouray Health Center is an ambulatory 40-hour facility staffed by physicians, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners, and dental, optometry, and psychology providers. They provide comprehensive public health services including general medical, surgical follow-up, pediatric, prenatal, and postpartum care. Dental, behavioral health, and optometry services are also available. Other clinical specialties are provided by visiting consultants and are scheduled periodically. Patients requiring more complex medical care are referred to the hospital or other contract facilities.

    Job Description

    • Responsible for full scope primary eye care delivered independently without assistance from text or nurses.
    • Obtain and document ophthalmic and medical history, conduct a comprehensive ophthalmic exam, provide accurate and complete diagnosis, and develop effective treatment plans.
    • Treatment plans may include prescriptions for eye care, contact lenses, oral and ophthalmic medications, and ordering ancillary testing as needed.
    • Perform ancillary testing including but not limited to imaging studies (ultrasound, photos, OCT, pachymetry), visual field testing, laboratory studies, and radiographic imaging (plain films, CT, and MRI).
    • Conduct minor surgical procedures such as foreign body removal and papilloma excision, and provide pre-operative and post-operative care for various ophthalmic surgeries.
    • Document, perform, and arrange follow-up and referrals as needed.

    Requirements

    • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a clinical optometrist.
    • Must have a Doctor of Optometry degree.
    • Must have an active, unrestricted license as an optometrist in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
    • Must have a current certification in Basic Life Support.
