    Job Description:

    • In conjunction with the RN/Unit Director, utilize a general understanding of the principles of nursing and basic physical assessment skills in the development of and implementation of individualized nursing care plans to ensure that the needs of the residents are met.
    • Assist in the orientation of and supervision of nursing personnel, attend to the daily operations of the unit per shift, unit level, and assume responsibilities of a leadership role.

    Responsibilities:

    • Take an active role in direct resident assessment and care.
    • Administer medication and/or treatment and documentation of same to residents.
    • Responsible for clinical documentation related to resident activity.
    • Assist in developing and implementing resident care plan and nursing care plan.
    • Count and record class drugs when beginning and ending shift.
    • Communicate pertinent data to charge nurse, superior, and/or physician.
    • Provide for emotional and physical comfort and safety of residents.
    • Assist physician in rounds and examination of residents, as needed.
    • Supervise and coordinate nursing personnel in providing direct resident care in adherence with state and federal regulations.
    • Ensure that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.
    • Perform other duties as requested.

    Requirements:

    • Must be a graduate of an approved school for practical or vocational nursing and must be currently licensed by the State Board of Nursing.
    • Experience is preferred in rehabilitative or geriatric nursing.

    Job Skills:

    • Must be in good physical and mental health.
    • Must be able to withstand strenuous physical activity.
    • Must have manual dexterity to handle instruments and equipment.
    • Must have visual and aural acuity to detect changes in resident's condition.
    • Must possess understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with infirm, chronic, or acutely ill residents; tact and courtesy in dealing with residents, families, and visitors.
    • Must possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
    • Must have a general knowledge of personnel policies and procedures, along with an understanding of supervisory responsibilities.
    • Must possess the ability to work independently, problem solve and make decisions as necessary.
    • Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language, which may be of a technical nature.
    • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
