Job Description:

Mary Free Bed is a not-for-profit, nationally accredited rehabilitation hospital serving thousands of children and adults each year through various rehabilitation programs. Our mission is to restore hope and freedom through rehabilitation.

• Assume full responsibility for evaluating patients' need for physical therapy.
• Plan and execute individual treatment programs in accordance with the State of Michigan licensure and PT scope of practice.
• Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, or registration and as required by law and regulation.
• Evaluate patient condition and establish treatment goals in collaboration with patients and their families.
• Administer treatment for each patient according to the stated goals and delegate responsibilities to physical therapist assistants and rehabilitation technicians as appropriate.
• Re-evaluate patient's status and effects of treatment, revising treatment plans as necessary.
• Evaluate patient's need for medical equipment and instruct patients, families, and healthcare workers on its use.
• Participate in planning for patient discharge by considering and communicating with patient, family, community support/services, and environmental limitations.

Requirements:

• Graduate of Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
• Licensure is required in every US State and Territory the Therapist is practicing. Licensure requirements should be met according to individual State laws.
• Possess and maintain BLS certification to meet department/program protocol.

Professional Development:

• Keep treatment skills upgraded through continuing education, evidence-based research, and program development.
• Participate in orientation and training of new staff.
• Serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students, supervising, teaching, and evaluating skills of students.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently position self to accomplish the essential functions of the role.
• Frequently receive and communicate information and ideas for understanding.
• Majority transport, position, and/or exert force up to 10 pounds.
• Frequently transport, position, and/or exert force up to 25, 50, and 75 pounds.
• Occasionally transport, position, and/or exert force more than 100 pounds.
