    Job Description:

    • Provides physical therapy services under the supervision of a physical therapist.
    • Keeps treatment skills updated through continuing education, evidence-based research, and program development.
    • Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, or registration as required by law and regulation.
    • Assists the physical therapist in treatment planning and conducting evaluation procedures.
    • Assists in treating patients using modalities, therapeutic exercise, assistive devices, and functional activities.
    • Provides verbal and/or written feedback to the physical therapist regarding significant observations or changes in the patient's condition.
    • Assists in determining equipment and supply needs, and may participate in acquisition and inventory.
    • Functions as primary therapist in treatment following evaluation and direction of physical therapist.
    • Documents patient's status and progress according to established standards.

    Communication:

    • Integrates physical therapy treatment with all aspects of patient care through communication with others.
    • Participates in conferences and discussions with interdisciplinary team members.
    • Instructs patients and families in physical therapy procedures, including providing written instructions.
    • Participates in meetings and in-services as designated.
    • Follows all hospital policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality and infection control.

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
    • Licensure with the State of Michigan.
    • Maintains BLS certification to meet department/program protocol.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Frequently required to position self to accomplish the essential functions of the role.
    • Frequently required to receive and communicate information.
    • Transport or exert force frequently up to 50 pounds, occasionally more than 100 pounds.

    Professional Development:

    • Serves as a clinical instructor for physical therapist assistant students.
    • Functions as a resource person in area of expertise.
    • Participates in program development and/or research activities.

    Compensation:

    • Based on experience starting at $25.40 per hour.
