Schedule/ Position Details:
- 8:30am to 5:00pm M-F
- Position entails being in the outpatient clinic, inpatient rounding, and checking on Infusion patients in the Infusion center.
- Hematology and Oncology is around a 50/50 or 40/60 split in terms of volume.
- New Patient visits: 45 minutes - 1 hour
- Follow-up visits: 30 minutes
- Infusion throughout the day. Usually check on patients during their lunch hour. Etc.
- Number of patients per day: 15
- Might see 5 to 6 per day during ramp-up/training period.
- Practice has PAXMAN Cooling System to help prevent chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
- There is an interest in accommodating Physician preferences. However, the needs of the patients and practice must be prioritized.
- APP’s are trained to round in the hospital and see patients in the clinic. Some APPs are primarily tasked to be at the clinic and others at the hospital to help with rounds, and chemo orders (check calculations to make sure they are accurate).
- Physicians do not have a specific MA or RN assigned to them. MAs and RNs support the entire team.
- MOST COMMON Cancer Types: Breast, Lung, GI, Colon, Lymphomas, Leukemia (Patient gets sent to tertiary care center at either UVA or VCU if very complex).
- Infusion Patients can be there half an hour to half a day depending on the situation.
- Physician communicates with billing team to confirm that treatment ordered is covered by insurance.
- Physician works with Pharmacy to make sure ordered medicine is on hand to administer (infusion).
- Practice works with insurance company and vendor to make sure patients can get what they need.
Tumor Boards
- Physician expected to participate.
- We have multiple tumor boards (10-12 per month). Lung, Breast, Colon, etc.
Minimum Requirements:
· MD., DO., Degree
· Current, unrestricted, Virginia State license or eligible for Virginia licensure.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
· Experienced physicians and new graduates welcome to apply.
· Excellent clinical and interpersonal skills are required as well as the desire to be part of a team that functions at the highest level.
