    Gastroenterologist

    We have an exciting locum tenens opportunity for a Gastroenterologist seeking to work near Salem, NM.     Job Description

    • Specialty: Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology
    • Start Date: December 1, 2024
    • End Date: March 31, 2025
    • Coverage Type: Call only (both inpatient and outpatient)
    • Work Schedule:
      • Coverage required two weeks per month
      • Up to 8 hours per day of scheduled outpatient procedures, with hospital coverage only (no clinic coverage)
      • Beeper call required with 30-minute response time
      • Average calls per 24 hours: 2 phone consults, 4 patient encounters, and 2 admissions

    Requirements

    • Certification: Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in Gastroenterology
    • Licensing: Active New Mexico license (reimbursement for licensing not provided)
    • Skills Preferred: Experience with ERCP preferred but not required
    • Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)

    Procedures and Skills

    • Competency in upper and lower GI endoscopies, including:
      • Biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeders, injection of varices, and esophageal dilatation
      • Small bowel biopsy, sigmoidoscopy, flexible and rigid colonoscopy with polyp excision
      • Diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP, PEG procedures, and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
      • Liver biopsy and management of Sengstaken-Blakemore tube

    Additional Assignment Details

    • Patients Per Shift: Varies by call
    • Temporary Privileges: Available for expedited start
    • EMR System: MediTech
    • Credentialing: Estimated timeframe of 45-60 days

    Facility Details

    • Trauma Level: Level IV
    • Pediatric Level: Level II
    • Support Staff: Includes RNs, with no requirement for supervision of Advanced Practice Providers (PA/NP) or residents
