    Job Description:

    • Work directly with hand surgeon(s) and the rehabilitation team to develop and implement pre- and post-surgical protocols for hand rehabilitation services.
    • Deliver quality therapy services by performing evaluations and developing individual treatment plans and goals to maximize functional outcomes.
    • Implement treatment programs, reassess treatment results, and actively participate in discharge planning.

    Core Responsibilities:

    • Evaluate and assess patients systematically and thoroughly; establish appropriate treatment plans and goals within specified time frames.
    • Administer appropriate treatments to patients using therapeutic exercise and activities, manual techniques, transfers, activities of daily living, modalities, and rehabilitation equipment.
    • Provide treatment for conditions such as tendon injuries, peripheral nerve injuries, crush injuries, repetitive motion disorders, lacerations, arthritis, joint replacement, and digit reattachments.
    • Provide services including post-operative management, fabrication of custom orthoses, joint mobilization, manual therapy, taping techniques, wound and scar management, and more.
    • Fabricate and choose appropriate splints and adaptive equipment.
    • Maintain standards of professional and ethical practice according to NY State guidelines for Physical/Occupational Therapy.
    • Deliver services within an interdisciplinary team approach.
    • Instruct and supervise PT/OT assistants, rehabilitation technicians, and student affiliates.
    • Maintain accurate medical records and charts; complete reports thoroughly and timely.
    • Foster communication with patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
    • Provide patient and family education, including information on outside resources.
    • Promote healthcare outcomes in line with clinical practice guidelines and established pathways.
    • Participate in continuing education and professional development.
    • Assist with orientation and training of therapy staff.
    • Participate in Quality and Performance Improvement activities.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor Degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or related field.
    • 2-3 years of clinical experience.
    • NYS license as a Physical Therapist / Occupational Therapist.
    • Certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) if an Occupational Therapist.
    • Certified by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission.
    • CPR/BLS certified.
