Job Description
- Deliver safe, complete, and comprehensive anesthetic care.
- Provide compassionate, respectful care focusing on patient safety, including clear communication and using layman terms for greater patient understanding.
- Engage in meaningful discussions about treatment options, risks, and benefits.
- Share appropriate clinical information with all members of the healthcare team.
- Adhere to accepted ASA Guidelines.
- Maintain a professional manner and participate in the Quality Assurance Program, including timely completion of QA/I forms with honest reporting of adverse events.
- Attend Department QA/QI meetings and actively participate in meaningful case discussions.
- Formulate plans to avoid future complications.
- Achieve and maintain Board certification and CME credits.
- Attend workshops to learn new technical skills and knowledge, keeping current with new trends, medications, and techniques in related disciplines.
Resident Education
- Participate in morning lectures, didactic and clinical teaching.
- Guide residents with grand round presentations and conduct written board reviews for residents.
- Conduct mock oral exams for residents and teach in the operating room.
- Assign related reading assignments prior to operative cases and discuss preoperative and intraoperative management.
- Facilitate resident development of clinical or basic science research projects.
- Orient new CA-1 residents during their first month and assist with their transition into Anesthesiology residency.
- Mentor residents throughout their residency, providing timely one-on-one feedback and completing all required evaluations.
- Participate in ongoing evaluations of the Residency program as requested and remain compliant with ACGME requirements.
Medical Student Education
- Provide didactic and clinical teaching in and out of the operating room.
- Facilitate medical students with research projects and introduce them to research if they are new to it.
- Guide medical students in choosing their career paths.
Faculty Continuing Medical Education
- Attend a national professional meeting of high quality at least once a year and participate in presenting at national meetings if possible.
- Attend grand rounds and faculty meetings regularly except when on call or on vacation.
- Maintain required CME credits each year and achieve board certification and recertification.
- Maintain society membership with ASA, NYSSA, and other relevant professional organizations.
- Strive to attend faculty development seminars at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Research
- Remain current with anesthesiology journals and associated research materials.
- Participate in writing publications such as manuscripts, abstracts, textbook chapters, review articles, and case reports.
- Present projects at departmental, regional, national, or international meetings.
- Apply for grants in both private and national arenas.
- Participate in the maintenance and completion of ongoing research projects by identifying patients for projects, acquiring samples and data, and facilitating the primary investigator as needed.
- Document research progress to department leadership and publish final products in peer-reviewed journals within and outside your specialty.

Work Environment
As our staffing increases to a full complement of faculty, work an average of 40-50 clinical hours per week including assigned calls. Receive a minimum of 10 hours nonclinical time per week for case presentation, resident/self-education, or research. In addition to a competitive salary of $375,000-$475,000, we offer opportunities for additional income through call responsibilities and productivity incentives. Benefits include LTD, STD, paid malpractice, health, dental, vision insurance, and a 403(b).
