Job Description:

• Under the general clinical supervision of the assigned dentist, provide support for the assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
• Assist in the supervision of dental hygiene students rotating at the dental office.

Duties Performed:

• Perform clinical examination of teeth and surrounding tissues, recording findings and treatment plans in electronic dental records.
• Remove hard and soft deposits and stains from teeth.
• Apply fluoride varnish and pit and fissure sealant.
• Provide patient instruction and counseling regarding oral hygiene, nutrition, and dietary issues.
• Expose radiographs and file them in the digital patient database.
• Consistently perform correct periodontal charting, offering recommendations and treatment plans to periodontal patients.
• Perform duties of expanded duty dental assistant when required.
• Ensure the work area is safe, clean, and well-organized with adequate supplies.
• Maintain a cooperative and professional working environment with co-workers and patients.
• Abide by all OSHA, EPA, and HIPAA regulations.
• Participate in Quality Assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
• Maintain patient Protected Health Information (PHI) and other patient and agency information in confidence.
• Actively participate in and comply with all aspects of the Corporate Compliance Program.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Dental Hygienist course and radiography certificate.
• Work Experience: SC licensure as a Dental Hygienist. One year of experience working as a Dental Hygienist is required. Must be computer literate and have experience using dental electronic record systems and digital radiography systems.
• Other Qualifications: Must have high interpersonal skills for handling sensitive situations with poise, tact, and diplomacy. Must communicate and work effectively with other employees and visitors. Must maintain integrity, confidentiality, and work under pressure to meet clinic requirements and satisfy patients.
