Job Description
- Provide, prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care with other health care providers to meet holistic care needs of a designated group of patients.
- This 26-bed med-surg unit provides care to patients who require evaluation and treatment for eight to 48 hours. Conditions that may require observation include chest pain, asthma, abdominal pain, kidney stones, and minor infections.
- Surgical patients who require an overnight stay are cared for on the Observation Unit, including patients who have had an appendectomy, cholecystectomy, or urological and gynecological procedures.
- IV antibiotics, fluids, insulin drips, nitroglycerin for blood pressure, TP, and lipids are often administered on this unit.
- The Observation Unit has a well-rounded staff with the knowledge and experience to care for patients who require care and coordination from an array of specialties.
- This is an excellent role for someone who likes a fast-paced environment and wants to keep their skills sharp. Your day-to-day nursing tasks will vary with the tailored needs of your patients.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma required.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
- Based on department, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire or transfer date department dependent required.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) OR Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) within one year of hire or transfer date department dependent required.
- Effective communication skills required.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and flexibility required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct patient care experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel preferred.
