    Job Description

    • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the Adults in Custody (AIC)
    • Take medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests and X-rays
    • Make a diagnosis, provide treatment plans, and prescribe medications
    • Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing
    • Attend to medical emergencies
    • Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy
    • Perform emergency consultation in instances where deemed necessary and perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits
    • Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating, and revising program plans
    • Assist in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to the delivery of health care services
    • Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems
    • Manage the daily operation of the clinic and conduct daily sick calls, which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings, and providing clinical evaluations
    • Provide a wide range of emergency services in the absence of the physician

    Requirements

    • Must be certified to practice medicine in the State of Texas
    • Providing verification of credentials (education, current licensure/status competency, continuing medical education), and proof of malpractice insurance as required by the Joint Commission
    • Must have knowledge of routine office-related duties including working knowledge of computers and word processing programs
    • Must possess good organizational skills and good interpersonal relationship skills
    • Must be able to work effectively with the medical staff
    • Cannot have had a negative employment termination within 36 months prior to initiating vouchering process

    Hours

    A session is defined as one hour. The contractor is estimated to provide 16 one-hour sessions per week. They can work three times a week for 40 weeks in a year or twice a week every week in a year. The schedule will consist of eight-hour days, Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Holidays, on an as-needed basis for 120 workdays within the first year, and 120 workdays in Performance Period 1, not to exceed 240 workdays in a 24-month period. Any time worked in a day constitutes one day. Work hours will normally be between 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. These hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution. The contractor shall not exceed an estimated 24 hours per week.

    On-Call/Call Back

    The contractor will be required to be on-call and available to return calls to the institution within 60 minutes if requested. This on-call requirement is critical for maintaining continuity of care and ensuring the safety and security of the institution.
