    Pathologist

    Pathologist coverage needed in Athens, GA. This position is required due to the retirement of a pathologist.

    Job Description

    • Board Certified - Required
    • Active GA License - Required
    • BLS - Required
    • Practice Setting: Hospital
    • Approx. Number of Cases Read Per Day: 10-15 per day per pathologist
    • Taking call for blood bank/organ procurement (rare)/frozen sections two weeks on and two weeks off
    • Reviewing specimens from techs that meet pathologist review criteria
    • Responsible for grossing their own specimens
    • Will not be cutting their own frozen sections on the cryostat
    • Group consists of 2 physicians and 6 histotechnologists
    • No supervision of other healthcare providers required
    • Other pathologists will be present during the locum's coverage
    • Equipment includes bond IHC, Leica and Thermo cryostats, and Zeiss microscopes
    • Non-GYN cytology proficiency exam required
    • Method of preparation: liquid base prep
    • Average number of patients per day: 1800 billables in clinical lab per day
    • Documentation system/EMR: Epic Beaker
    • Trauma level/designation: no trauma
    • Estimated credentialing timeframe: 45 days
    • Facility will reimburse the following costs: flight, hotel, rental car
    • Pathologist cuts frozens after hours only; grossing is alternated one day for biopsies and one day for surgical sections

    Requirements

    • Required anatomic pathology procedures: surgical pathology, GI pathology, GU pathology, neuropathology, hematopathology (bone marrow, lymph nodes), aspiration/biopsy of bone marrow, interpretation of bone marrow aspirate/biopsy, cytology, autopsy
    • Required clinical pathology procedures: hematology, microbiology, chemistry/serology, blood bank

    Schedule

    • Dates of coverage: beginning July 1, 2025, minimum 6-month assignment
    • Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM or 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
    • Call schedule: rotating call every two weeks
    • Call ratio: rotating call every two weeks
