    Radiologic Technologist

    The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for operating radiologic equipment to take clinical diagnostic X-ray imaging for orthopedic procedures as directed by physicians, in addition to performing routine diagnostic procedures. This role requires establishing and maintaining working relationships with colleagues and physicians, while displaying the interpersonal skills necessary for exercising judgment and discretion when dealing with all colleagues, patients, and physicians.

    Job Description

    • Position patients and adjust equipment for taking X-rays following established procedures.
    • Instruct patients regarding procedures and observe patients during examinations.
    • Follow prescribed safety standards in operating radiological equipment.
    • Select length and intensity for radiation exposure by adjusting equipment as needed.
    • Maintain excellent X-ray quality.
    • Deliver X-rays to physicians for reading/interpretation.
    • Examine radiological properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification, and distortion.
    • Maintain necessary supplies and/or accessories for the X-ray unit and processor.
    • Maintain X-ray file system, including patient X-ray pickup and scanning X-rays from satellite offices to PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems).
    • Refer to weekly OR list for physicians, mail-outs, and computer knowledge and filing X-ray folders.
    • Stock necessary medical supplies.
    • Clean and make minor adjustments to radiologic equipment.
    • Participate in training and training new X-ray technicians.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality.
    • Maintain professional growth and licenses through educational programs, conferences, and workshops.
    • Attend required meetings.
    • Perform related work as required.
    • Actively support office staff in between taking X-rays during periods of downtime.

    Requirements

    • Working knowledge of C-arm fluoroscopic intraoperative imaging for orthopedic procedures.
    • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology sufficient to pinpoint areas of radiography.
    • Knowledge of radiology equipment and testing, including safety hazards common to radiology.
    • Skilled in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging.
    • Skilled in troubleshooting equipment operation and performing simple adjustments.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.
    • Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices.
    • Ability to identify problems and communicate clearly.

    Acceptable Experience and Training

    • Education: Completion of a course in Radiologic Technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    • Experience: One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist is preferred.
    • Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    • Current License with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    • Current License by the State of Connecticut.
    • Continuing education will be required.
