Job Description:
- Responsible for the set-up and maintenance of the surgical field
- Assists the surgeon during operative procedures
- Possesses the ability to scrub all cases in all services
- Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation, their uses, and accurate methods of sterilization
- Maintains an aseptic controlled environment
- Assists in processes to streamline care, reduce inefficiency, improve quality, and reduce costs
- Supports the philosophy and goals of OSS Orthopaedic Hospital
Schedule:
- Part time
- Monday to Friday
- (3) shifts a week
- 10:30 am to 7:00 pm ET
- No weekends, holidays, or call
- Staggered shift to help with late cases and set-up for the next day
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist required
- BLS certification required or an ability to obtain within (1) year
- Must have proficient computer skills
- Must have professional and effective communication skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology required
Experience:
- Surgical Tech I - prior experience as a surgical tech strongly preferred
- Surgical Tech II - at least (3) years of experience as a surgical tech required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with preparation and cleaning of surgical suite
- Sets up and maintains the sterile surgical field
- Assists the surgeon by passing instruments during operations
- Performs sponge, needle, and instrument count
- Anticipates needs of operative team and delivers necessary instruments and supplies
- Transports patients and assists with transferring patients from stretcher to table
- Assists with lifting and positioning patient
- Reports unusual occurrences to the manager or designee
- Contributes to the efficient and productive operation of the Operating Room
Physical Demands:
- Moderate physical effort in patient care environment
- Standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping
- Occasionally lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds
- Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency
Work Environment:
- Climate-controlled environment
- Exposed to blood borne pathogens, odorous chemicals, and specimens
- Subject to stressful situations, long or irregular hours
