Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Technologist
Job Description:
- Perform phlebotomy and laboratory testing
- Understand the clinical significance of results
- Monitor and operate laboratory instrumentation
- Report results accurately and rapidly
- Follow established organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines
Qualifications and Education:
- Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field preferred
- Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent preferred
- Must be detail-oriented and able to work with minimal supervision
- Proficient in computer skills
- Possess professional and effective communication skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain strong positive relationships with patients and staff
- Perform all clinical testing as assigned and report results accurately
- Perform and interpret quality control testing
- Maintain a high level of quality assurance
- Coordinate and evaluate new reagents, procedures, and equipment
- Perform routine and specialized maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Conduct basic troubleshooting on laboratory analyzers
- Manage an efficient workstation, ensuring cleanliness and stock
- Maintain a safe environment following hospital policies
- Utilize appropriate safety and infection control practices
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patients and all aspects of care
- Participate in educational activities, unit meetings, and quality initiatives
- Maintain skills through competency testing
Language Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, physicians, and the public
- Fluent in English
Physical Demands:
- Moderate physical effort including standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping
- Moderate sitting and keyboarding; manual dexterity to operate equipment
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies
Work Environment:
- Climate-controlled environment with occasional outdoor periods
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, toxic chemicals, electrical and mechanical hazards, bio-contaminated waste, and unpleasant elements
- Subject to stressful situations and long or irregular hours
