    Job Description

    • Screens and evaluates individuals to assess therapy needs.
    • Provides therapy by developing and modifying treatment plans and conducting re-evaluations as needed.
    • Provides clinical support to staff as needed.
    • Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team.
    • Completes an initial evaluation for all newly referred individuals, making recommendations as appropriate.
    • Develops treatment plans in areas of occupational therapy, including sensory motor development, visual-perceptual, cognitive, and neuromuscular fine/gross motor development.
    • Treatment plans also include activities of daily living, adaptive equipment, and wheelchair positioning/maintenance.
    • Provides clinical supervision and training to COTAs or other staff involved in providing services, ensuring completion of required treatment.
    • Completes and/or reviews required documentation of therapy services.
    • Provides therapy as needed.
    • Provides direct clinical supervision to COTAs.
    • Participates in professional meetings as assigned, integrating services with other providers.
    • Counsels patients and their family members/caregivers regarding the patient's occupational therapy services.
    • Provides orientation to COTA staff and participates in the orientation process for all staff; participates in in-service training.
    • Provides consultation to staff for the development of individual goals.
    • Makes recommendations for the purchase of specialized equipment, materials, and wheelchair modifications.
    • Develops discharge planning with individuals/families and the interdisciplinary team when indicated; establishes/teaches individual/family home exercise programs and teaches safe and proper use of adaptive equipment as needed.
    • Refers to other disciplines if necessary.
    • Assists in the provision of therapy services in ancillary clinics as necessary.
    • Complies with all agency policies and procedures.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy.
    • Must be licensed and registered by New York State Department of Education to practice Occupational Therapy.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Provides direct clinical supervision to the COTAs.
