    Job Description:

    • Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care.
    • Utilize a problem-based approach for patient diagnosis and treatment.
    • Document patient observations, exam findings, diagnostics, treatments, medications, and diagnoses concisely.
    • Perform routine and complex surgical and dental procedures.
    • Develop treatment plans for patients and ensure continuity of care with referral hospitals.

    Responsibilities:

    • Participate in rounds at the beginning and end of shifts.
    • Disseminate knowledge to staff for improved patient and client care.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Nature of Supervision:

    Veterinarians receive direct supervision from the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director and are expected to uphold Petco Veterinary SOP standards, accepting feedback to elevate patient care.

    Education/Experience:

    • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.

    • Current DEA license.
    • USDA Category I (minimum) Accreditation or completion within two months of hire.
    • Proficiency in anesthesia and routine surgeries.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Compassionate, professional demeanor during stressful situations.
    • Team player, willing to learn, innovate, and adapt.

    Work Environment:

    The role is conducted in a Vetco Total Care full-service hospital, involving bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and prolonged standing. Significant interaction with clients and pets is required.
