Job Description:
- Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care.
- Utilize a problem-based approach for patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Document patient observations, exam findings, diagnostics, treatments, medications, and diagnoses concisely.
- Perform routine and complex surgical and dental procedures.
- Develop treatment plans for patients and ensure continuity of care with referral hospitals.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in rounds at the beginning and end of shifts.
- Disseminate knowledge to staff for improved patient and client care.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Nature of Supervision:
Veterinarians receive direct supervision from the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director and are expected to uphold Petco Veterinary SOP standards, accepting feedback to elevate patient care.

Education/Experience:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
- Active veterinary licensure in the state or ability to obtain it by the start date.
- Current DEA license.
- USDA Category I (minimum) Accreditation or completion within two months of hire.
- Proficiency in anesthesia and routine surgeries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassionate, professional demeanor during stressful situations.
- Team player, willing to learn, innovate, and adapt.
Work Environment:
The role is conducted in a Vetco Total Care full-service hospital, involving bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and prolonged standing. Significant interaction with clients and pets is required.
