Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant
PrimeCare Medical, Inc. (PCM) has been in operation since 1986. We are a privately owned, physician-founded, nationally accredited correctional healthcare practice. PCM provides comprehensive medical, mental health, and dental care services to over 80 county jails, prisons, and juvenile detention centers throughout the states of PA, MD, FL, NY, and NH.

We are currently looking for a part-time or PRN Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team and provide on-site medical care at the Baltimore County Detention Center in Towson, MD. Shifts availability is based on staffing needs and the majority of openings are on weekends from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with some 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shifts.
Job Description
- Perform physical examinations on all newly incarcerated inmates/patients and evaluate sick inmates/patients, presenting observations to the attending physician.
- Perform a variety of duties such as suturing, administering injections and medications, drawing blood samples, and evaluating diagnostic findings.
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely medical entries are made for each inmate/patient contact.
- Provide counseling and education on common medical problems.
- Perform histories and physicals on all newly committed inmates/patients in accordance with NCCHC/ACA Standards, facility requirements, and PCM policies and procedures.
- Comply with standards of care in accordance with NCCHC/ACA and accepted healthcare standards.
- Develop and conduct in-service education programs according to the annual in-service calendar, as assigned by PCM Medical Director and/or Administrator.
- Review inmate/patient records to determine health status and initiate necessary treatment.
- Screen inmate/patient sick call requests to determine appropriate follow-up care.
- Evaluate inmate/patients at sick call for common complaints.
- Order appropriate laboratory tests and X-rays.
- Order specialty consultations when indicated.
- Provide other services as required at the request of the PCM Medical Director and/or Administrator.
- Provide ongoing, continuous care for inmates/patients with chronic medical problems such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
- Collect specimens for and carry out commonly performed blood, urine, and stool analyses and cultures.
- Evaluate and initiate treatment in emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, hemorrhage, burns, and injuries.
- Prescribe therapeutic modalities such as medications and diets in accordance with regulations.
This position is exciting and fast-paced, requiring someone who can multi-task well and has excellent time management skills. The candidate must also have the ability to work independently and be comfortable making patient diagnoses on their own.
Requirements
- Must have a minimum of two years of experience in a provider position.
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant program.
- Board Certified.
- Licensed to practice medicine in Maryland.
- Maintain current DEA license.
- Maintain active BLS (CPR) certification.
- Maintain current Driver's License.

- Hourly rate range of $60.00 - $70.00 per hour with shift differential for weekend shifts.
