Job Description:
The Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital will give our community its first-ever wellness destination. Our families and friends will have improved access to nutrition education, exercise resources, and state-of-the-art care like they never have before. We offer over 200,000 square feet and have 58 acute care beds in our new state-of-the-art regional hospital. Our campus also features an organic farm with access to nutrition, education, and therapies. We will serve as a community hub that touches residents of all ages and promotes a higher quality of life. This is a new model of collaboration between ProMedica and the community. We are excited to set a new standard for health and wellness in Lenawee County.
- Prepares operating rooms for surgery, using appropriate techniques.
- Provides technical services and assists during operative procedures on infant through geriatric patients, as assigned and directed.
Accountabilities:
- Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients/clients served (infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
- Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
- Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
- Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
- Prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning.
- Monitors and restocks supplies.
- Drapes patients for procedures, assists with case as directed by physician.
- Knowledgeable in surgical cases for all services provided.
- Shares knowledge of scrubbing to educate/mentor peers and new orientees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Education: Graduate of approved surgical technician program or licensed as LPN in the State of Michigan
- Skills: Must be able to read and speak the English language. Must be able to communicate in person, and have the ability to deal effectively with a changing environment and be open to new ideas. Must be able to input information into computer programs and maintain patient chart, records, and logs. Must be able to use basic math. Must be able to research information. Must be able to operate diagnostic equipment.
- License: LPN license in the State of Michigan, if not a graduate of an approved surgical technician program
- Certification: BCLS and Surgical Technologist (CST) certification if not an LPN. Must have Surgical Technologist (CST) certification within six (6) months of hire.
Working Conditions:
- Personal Protective Equipment: Eye protection, face protection, gown, mask, and sterile and/or non-sterile gloves.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to see, hear, and move intermittently, or use prosthetics that will enable you to function adequately to assure that the requirements of the position can be fully met. Must have manual dexterity. Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, pulls up to 50 lbs. Frequently lifts, positions, pushes, transfers patients. Frequent prolonged standing and walking. Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Regularly exposed to infection and contagious disease. Regularly exposed to blood borne pathogens from blood and/or bodily fluids. Subject to long and/or irregular hours. Must be able to handle crisis or emergency situations.
