    Assistant Clinical Manager/Program Administrator

    The Assistant Clinical Manager/Program Administrator is a first-line manager who, in collaboration with the Clinical Manager, directs nursing care and coordinates resources for a specified unit while performing administrative activities and providing leadership and support to staff.

    Job Description

    • Collaborate and support the health care team in the delivery of quality and fiscally responsible patient-focused care.
    • Provide/direct nursing care throughout the lifespan with consideration of the aging process, developmental, and cultural patterns in each step of the nursing process.
    • Identify and allocate environmental technical personnel resources needed to meet the needs of patients, families, and colleagues.
    • Participate in quality assessment and improvement programs to evaluate the effectiveness of care delivered.
    • Enhance unit behaviors through encouragement of education and implementation of new concepts and technology.
    • Provide leadership in the development of policies, procedures, standards of care, and critical paths to promote positive patient outcomes.
    • Facilitate, stimulate, and evaluate human resources to provide quality, cost-efficient patient care.
    • Staff the patient care unit to meet patients' needs based on the patient classification system and resources available.
    • Document and communicate staff performance with recommendations for quality and growth.
    • Collaborate interdisciplinary to foster staff development.
    • Develop unit staffing schedules to provide a fiscally sound and safe staffing pattern that meets patient and family needs and expectations.
    • Conduct informational staff meetings to provide a positive environment conducive to change and progress in the health care field.
    • Identify staff educational needs and work with the Clinical Manager and Unit Teacher to promote learning.
    • Identify and resolve nursing care conflicts related to the unit.
    • Contribute to unit staff appraisals and developmental goals.
    • Assist in the credentialing process and assess compliance with unit standards.
    • Collaborate with Nursing Faculty and students to meet educational needs.
    • Respect Rhode Island Hospital policies, procedures, including union contracts and standards of practice.
    • Participate in staff recruitment and retention.
    • Implement disciplinary action with respect to Rhode Island Hospital Personnel Policies and Procedures.

    Requirements

    • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Candidates matriculated into a BSN program will be considered.
    • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience with demonstrated clinical and leadership skills. Must maintain mandatory skills and remain current in practice and technology.

    Supervision

    • Supervisory responsibility for up to 40 FTEs.

    Performance Standards

    • Ensure equipment is maintained in proper working order and that malfunctioning equipment is removed from use and repaired or replaced.
    • Ensure compliance with departmental and regulatory standards, e.g., AORN Joint Commission.
    • Ensure safety checks are done on schedule, e.g., crash carts, autoclave testing, etc.
    • Daily clinical assignment based upon staff level of experience and patient acuity.
    • Assignment of staff to projects/committees to support department strategic and quality plans and follow through to ensure completion.
    • Investigate and document concerns regarding personnel.
    • In collaboration with Clinical Manager, counsel staff when requested/indicated and implement disciplinary steps when appropriate.
    • Have input into hiring/terminating staff; perform performance reviews for all ancillary staff and have input into clinical staff evaluations.
    • Responsible for ensuring appropriate timely and accurate use of incident reports, collating reports, and developing a monthly report.
    • Assist with developing/maintaining policy and procedures.
    • Recognize trends and discuss trends with Clinical Manager.
