This position involves performing diagnostic procedures using ultrasound equipment to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries.

    Job Description

    • Under the general supervision of the Ultrasound Manager and Lead Ultrasound Technologist, perform diagnostic procedures using ultrasound equipment.
    • Review and record pertinent history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results.
    • Position patients and instruct them regarding the procedure to obtain the desired diagnostic results specified by the physician.
    • Conduct scanning procedures using ultrasound equipment; adjust equipment to focus and record anatomical pathophysiological data.
    • Assist physicians in procedures such as localizations, biopsies, and aspirations by confirming the location of cysts using ultrasound equipment.
    • Assemble all necessary information and film, including impressions of the case, and present them to the physician for interpretation.
    • Review orders for appropriateness and contact referring doctors with any questions.
    • Maintain ultrasound equipment and work area, submitting maintenance requests as necessary.
    • Responsible for cleaning the scanning room daily and between patients for optimal infection control.
    • Provide clinical experience for diagnostic medical sonography students and on-the-job instruction to employees in ultrasound procedures.

    Requirements

    • One year of formal training in an accredited School of Ultrasound or four years of experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer.
    • Current CPR certification from AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers.
    • Ability to operate ultrasound equipment and lift/move patients into correct positions.
    • ARDMS certification is required.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements

    • Generally good working conditions with some exposure to radiation; established safety precautions minimize injury risk.
    • Frequent standing, lifting, and positioning of patients is required.
    • Some visual strain due to working in dimly-lit rooms and observing viewing screens.
