Clinical Pharmacy Specialist
Join our team at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, where we are dedicated to providing safe and effective infusion therapies in accordance with State, Federal, and OSHA regulations. This full-time position offers a structured work schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Job Description
- Perform specified distributive and clinical pharmacy activities and related services for the Home Infusion Pharmacy.
- Receive, review, and verify all new patient orders and ensure documentation accuracy.
- Provide consultation and answer inquiries from patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals regarding medications and their appropriate use.
- Supervise, coordinate, direct, and/or participate in the preparation of sterile intravenous admixtures and dispense pharmaceuticals in accordance with laws and standards.
- Process and check all medications, supplies, and equipment prior to dispensing from the pharmacy.
- Maintain pharmacy records in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Maintain clinical skills and knowledge of pharmacotherapy by reviewing literature and attending in-services, seminars, and conferences.
- Accurately administer procedures involved with the procurement, inventory control, record maintenance, and distribution of investigational drugs.
- Monitor drug therapy and communicate relevant findings to other healthcare professionals responsible for patient care.
- Supervise support personnel in data entry, filling, dispensing of prescriptions, proper storage, and inventory control of drugs.
- Participate in on-call rotation and orientation/training programs for new personnel.
- Engage in departmental Quality Assurance activities and perform marketing support functions as requested.
- Attend department meetings as scheduled and perform other tasks or special projects as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Illinois.
- Experience and strong knowledge base in intravenous admixture services, intravenous drug therapy, and chemotherapy.
- Capable of evaluating and monitoring drug therapy relative to the needs/problems of ambulatory care patients in collaboration with healthcare professionals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy or ASHP Residency.
- Two years recent experience in an acute-care setting or one year recent experience in home infusion therapy.
Physical Demands
- Normal office, warehouse, and clinical environments.
- May be exposed to certain hazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens, chemotherapeutic agents, cleaning, and sanitizing agents.
