Job Description

• Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.
• Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory requirements are met.
• Day-to-day lead and acts as the point person in the absence of a supervisor.
• Collect laboratory specimens, as needed.
• Process lab specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate skill in use of equipment relevant to position.
• Demonstrate critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving.
• Demonstrate personal commitment to the principles, values, and ethics of the organization to promote a positive work environment.
• Seek personal learning opportunities.
• Recognize safety hazards and comply with all safety practices and protocols.
• Assist in the training and competency assessment of staff.
• Serve as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborate with other departments across the enterprise.
• Participate in validations, proficiency testing, evaluation, and quality assurance initiatives.
• Provide feedback for performance appraisals.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• May be required to travel to other locations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required.
• Two years of laboratory-related experience preferred.
• Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example, American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) is also acceptable.
• If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.
• Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications.
• May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
