Job Description
- Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.
- Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory requirements are met.
- Day-to-day lead and acts as the point person in the absence of a supervisor.
- Collect laboratory specimens, as needed.
- Process lab specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate skill in use of equipment relevant to position.
- Demonstrate critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Demonstrate personal commitment to the principles, values, and ethics of the organization to promote a positive work environment.
- Seek personal learning opportunities.
- Recognize safety hazards and comply with all safety practices and protocols.
- Assist in the training and competency assessment of staff.
- Serve as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborate with other departments across the enterprise.
- Participate in validations, proficiency testing, evaluation, and quality assurance initiatives.
- Provide feedback for performance appraisals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- May be required to travel to other locations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required.
- Two years of laboratory-related experience preferred.
- Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example, American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) is also acceptable.
- If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.
- Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications.
- May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
