    Job Description:

    • Acts independently under the direction of the Medical Director performing a wide variety of tasks in processing the full range of human pathology specimens.
    • Preferably with additional expertise in surgical pathology and/or cytology.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Perform diagnostic interpretation of biopsy and/or cytology material. Proficient in general surgical pathology as well as expertise in bone marrow and lymph node examination.
    • Diagnosis to include: gross and microscopic evaluation, dictation and electronic release of reviewed cases.
    • Participate as an active medical member of the department with substantial diagnostic case responsibilities.
    • Participate in client visits, peer consults, and continuing education.
    • Perform quality control and assurance.
    • Interact with ordering physicians who request to speak with a pathologist.
    • Read and interpret laboratory data.
    • Provide expertise and help to technologists and technicians to resolve problems.
    • Participate in departmental professional Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities (e.g., Pathology Competency Assessment Program).

    Regulatory Responsibilities:

    Conduct business in a responsible manner that complies with all state, CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations, or Joint Commission as applicable. Provide leadership in daily operations, and have employees incorporate these compliance practices into their daily routines.

    Education:

    Doctor of Medicine, accredited pathology residency with or without fellowship training.

    Professional Experience:

    Completion of pathology residency training and ABP certification. Minimum of three years professional experience.

    Special Requirements:

    • Active unrestricted state licensure for NJ and NY.
    • NYS-DOH Certificate of Qualification in appropriate specialties.
    • Must meet CLIA requirements.
    • Occasional travel to clients.
    • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
