Job Description
- Promote maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
- Provide comprehensive patient evaluations that set realistic short- and long-term goals and plans.
- Prepare patients for return to all aspects of daily living including home and employment by determining potential difficulties and implementing treatment plans to address all areas.
- Evaluate results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress, recommending, and implementing adjustments and modifications.
- Maintain appropriate patient case load to meet company required metrics of 60-65 patients per week for a 40-hour work week.
- Participate in monthly staff meetings.
- Supervise COTA and OT/COTA students as needed.
- Complete discharges and all paperwork in a timely manner and consult with physicians, nurses, and other health care workers; contribute to patient care conferences as needed.
- Assure continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs.
- Maintain patient confidence and protect facility operations by keeping information confidential.
- Uphold a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures and infection control guidelines.
- Keep up with professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements.
- Fabricate custom splints and upper extremity orthotics.
- Maintain all inventory for splinting and patient needs.
- Report to Occupational Therapy Lead.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must have graduated and completed professional Occupational Therapy training from an accredited program leading to, at minimum, a Bachelor's degree.
- Must maintain current state licensure through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Allied Health Division of Professional Licensure.
- Must be CPR certified.
- Must have strong hand therapy and orthopedic experience; comfort with splinting; CHT preferred.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and the public by displaying sympathy, tact, and understanding.
- Must be a team player with a positive attitude; adjust to various personalities; work with a diverse population; demonstrating patience and professionalism.
- Represent the clinic in a professional manner.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality on all patient issues.
