    Job Description

    • A Lab Tech will add to pre-analytical specimen processing the duties associated with analytical testing of samples according to SOPs and supervision.
    • Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors, and other employees regardless of cultural background.
    • Demonstrate the understanding of pre-analytical processes and impact on testing; process/set up, label, aliquot, and transport specimens as required per SOPs to ensure stability and quality for testing.
    • Prepare and perform maintenance checks on clinical analyzers for testing according to SOPs including loading of reagents, calibrators, and quality control. Perform preanalytical steps for testing including preparations of stock solutions/reagents, calibrators, QC, or patient specimens.
    • Prepare and load patient specimens for analysis according to SOPs and training onto analytical systems. Review results for out-of-range flags and flags from the analytical systems. Report any deviations to a technologist according to the SOPs and training.
    • Perform and document troubleshooting activities and checks on analyzers or test systems to ensure quality patient results are reported. Report any deviations in checks and troubleshooting to a technologist or supervisor.
    • Under supervision, test samples and report patient results according to SOPs and training, reporting any deviation in expected results to a technologist or supervisor.
    • Achieve the level of CEUs as required by lab assistants and 3 additional CEUs related to clinical laboratory testing.
    • Monitor and assist with inventory maintenance, ordering supplies for testing within the department when necessary.
    • Clean, organize, and stock lab workstations so work can be performed in a safe and orderly manner.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, physical science, microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.
    • 1 year (full-time equivalent) as a Clinical Lab Assistant I with high performance competency assessments completed.

    Specialized Knowledge

    • Clinical laboratory skills, analytical equipment, technical SOPs, LIS.

    Desirable

    • Automation experience, process improvement experience.
