    Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse

    Job Description:

    • Provides direct nursing care to UC
    • Works within Scope of Practice and performs functions outlined in the Guidelines for the Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse
    • Assists with medical appointments, emergencies, and sick call by taking vital signs and documenting UC medical complaints
    • Assists with minor surgical procedures
    • Ensures the medical providers' orders are implemented
    • Applies knowledge of drugs and therapeutics when administering medication
    • Documents all UC contacts
    • Develops nursing care plans
    • Coordinates health care needs of detainees with other staff members and coordinates referrals to providers as required
    • Performs record-keeping functions in accordance with program policies
    • Maintains patient confidentiality and confidentiality of medical records
    • Maintains safety when administering medications and HIPAA
    • Destroys and properly disposes of all needles/syringes
    • Assists with the disposal of biologically hazardous wastes on a regular basis
    • Assures a safe and clean working environment
    • Assists with maintenance of medical equipment and quality control of laboratory reagents
    • May assist in maintaining medical supply stock levels, restocking as needed
    • May order supplies (lab and otherwise)
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
    • Provides daily nursing care as needed and notifies RN, Physician, or PA/NP of any abnormal findings
    • Makes beds in the unit as needed
