    Internal Medicine Hospitalist

    Practice inpatient internal medicine with an established, skilled, and diverse group of internal medicine physicians.

    Job Description

    • Schedule is 12-hour shifts, 25 weeks per year (with potential for additional shifts)
    • Day shift: 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    • Some night shifts required
    • Six to seven hospitalists on each day shift and one to two on each night shift
    • Average patient census is patients per hospitalist per day
    • Average admits and consults per day is 16-17 (average 4 per hospitalist)
    • Night shift would be covering approximately 90 patients each night with an average of 8.5 admissions per night
    • 2nd hospitalist working a swing shift from 6:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. to help with new admissions
    • Night call is approximately 1:10 with a goal to get to 1:14, taken in 1-week blocks
    • Trauma II hospital

    • Open ICU with coverage and procedures optional; critical care physicians available
    • The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences located in Grand Forks offers opportunities to teach medical students and residents on rotation with additional teaching exposure opportunities on campus. Altru has a Family Medicine Residency program and UND has a Surgical Residency program located in Grand Forks.
