    Assistant Clinical Manager

    The Assistant Clinical Manager is a first-line manager who, in collaboration with the Clinical Manager, directs nursing care and coordinates resources for a specified unit while performing administrative activities and providing leadership and support to staff.

    Job Description

    • Collaborates and supports the health care team in the delivery of quality and fiscally responsible patient-focused care.
    • Monitors and evaluates the assignment of patient care to the appropriate nursing personnel based on patient needs and acuity level.
    • Provides guidance regarding patient care and other job-related requirements.
    • Develops employees by monitoring, intervening, and interacting when appropriate after assessing and evaluating the nursing care provided.
    • Participates in quality assessment and improvement programs to evaluate the effectiveness of care delivered.
    • Enhances unit behaviors through encouragement of education and implementation of new concepts and technology.
    • Provides leadership in the development of policies, procedures, standards of care, and critical paths to promote positive patient outcomes.
    • Facilitates, stimulates, and evaluates human resources to provide quality, cost-efficient patient care by staffing the patient care unit to meet patient needs based on ANA staffing principles.
    • Documents and communicates staff performance with recommendations for quality and growth.
    • Develops unit staffing schedule to provide a fiscally sound and safe staffing pattern that meets patient and family needs and expectations.
    • Identifies staff educational needs and works with the Clinical Manager and Nursing Staff Development Specialist to promote learning.
    • Identifies and resolves nursing care conflicts related to the unit.
    • Participates in the development and administration of annual performance appraisals and developmental goals under the direction and approval of the Clinical Manager.
    • Collaborates with Nursing Faculty and students to meet educational needs.
    • Participates in the staff recruitment and retention process.
    • Participates in the implementation of disciplinary action with respect to The Miriam Hospital Personnel Policies and Procedures.
    • Effectively utilizes resources to develop cost-efficient delivery of high-quality services by developing and utilizing quality cost-efficient patient care.
    • Assists in the development of capital and operational budgets defined for the unit.
    • Encourages staff to develop and implement new concepts and technology into nursing practice.
    • Monitors payroll.
    • Contributes to the organizational plan for development of short and long-term goals by providing unit management coverage in collaboration with the Clinical Manager, directing and supervising unit staff, and communicating the status of unit operations, activities, and issues to the Clinical Manager or appropriate discipline.
    • Participates in unit management meetings and recommends fiscal/patient care objectives, standards, and goals. Chairs unit staff meetings in collaboration with the Clinical Manager.
    • Participates in the formation of policy procedures, standards, organizational committees, and compliance with TJC standards.
    • Ensures the highest standards of patient-focused care by assisting the health care team to achieve and maintain clinical excellence by remaining current on the latest concepts, techniques, and methods relative to areas of responsibility.
    • Collaborates with the health care team to foster communication with patients and family members to facilitate positive patient outcomes and discharge planning.

    Requirements

    • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Candidates matriculated into a BSN program will be considered. Maintains an active CEU/Education file.
    • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience with demonstrated clinical and leadership skills. Maintains mandatory skills; remains current in practice and technology; is an active member of a professional organization.

    Supervision

    • Supervisory responsibility for up to 40 FTEs.
